The impact of technology and social media on our daily lives is more than we can imagine. For instance, we have all experienced the restlessness that comes with constantly checking our social media updates. Remember the time when for a lot of us, work-from-home jobs crossed the thin line between our personal and professional life. For some of us, it was too late to realize how its side effects took a toll on our health. So why be so neglectful of our health and why not make digital detox a part of our routine. Below are a few digital detox tips that you would want to implement.

Opt for alternatives to Technology

We are obsessed with clicking pictures. May it be a well-garnished mouth-watering delicacy at a new restaurant or an exquisite location, we would lie if clicking a picture is not the first thing that comes to our mind. In a hurry to take out our phones and post a picture on the Internet, we miss living the true joy of the present moment. We need to re-learn to cherish such moments in real and not always in virtual ways.

A few instances of “Technoference” include opting for Binge-watching instead of spending time with friends and family, with the latter having more effect on our well-being.

Using phones or computers for simple calculations, which earlier we readily used to perform in our minds. Mental calculations have proven to keep the brain more active.

Implement measures like choosing stairs instead of an elevator, preferring audio phone calls while walking instead of video calls(if feasible), and taking a walk in nature instead of mindless phone scrolls. Keep a check on screen time by enabling application usage limits. If you are a parent or a guardian, monitor the screen time of the child and plan playful alternatives.

Take a break from gadgets for complete 24 hours

Detaching yourself digitally for a complete day during the weekend or a day off from work or routine will add better value to your health. Use these complete 24 hours for relaxation, self-development or self-grooming without any gadgets. Include activities like meditation, a workout routine or yoga, decluttering your physical space(also your mind), reading a book, meeting an old friend, pursuing your childhood hobby, cooking yourself a special meal, having a massage, spa or simply dipping your feet in warm water while listening to your favorite song. You will surely add to your well-being and be ready for a new work day afresh.

This will also provide some relaxation to the eyes from screen time. Here are quick eye-care tips

Meditation retreats

Meditation retreats have proven to realign our life which otherwise is caught amidst a super-busy, super-tiring world. This is the most effective self-reflection time and a chance to discover more of yourself. Many meditation courses involve the prohibited use of digital devices which helps you to truly detach digitally as well as from the rest of the outside world. One such experience is the Vipassana Meditation Retreat.

Regular breaks from the digital world are necessary to keep your unique essence alive and thriving.
