Regular exercise or a workout routine requires discipline and grit. While some of us are determined to exercise regularly, many of us still struggle to take out some time specifically for physical exercise. In such a case, your daily non-exercise physical activities can help you burn some calories.

1. Household chores
Household chores are something we cannot skip. Even if we have someone else to take care of it, we can still manage to take up a few of these tasks regularly. Activities like cleaning, mopping, gardening, and farming in your backyard require your physical energy. Perform these tasks diligently while having full consciousness of your body parts moving, as if it were a physical workout.
2. Playing with kids
As adults, entertaining and playing with kids for a long time is not an easy deed. For us, it is difficult to match up to their enthusiasm while playing indoors or outdoors. Plan regular games or outdoor activities with your kids so that you have a fun session with these loved ones as well as get yourself some movement.
3. Mindfulness
Be mindful while you are doing your regular activities. Perform a quick body stretch several times a day to freshen up yourself. Walk shorter distances instead of using transportation. Choose stairs instead of the elevator. Walk while you are on a phone call. Avoid sitting for a long time and instead of sitting, whenever possible, choose standing. While you opt for these choices remind yourself to feel as if your body is working out. Be mindful to take these baby steps for your well-being.
The beauty of these activities is that, since these are unavoidable daily/weekly tasks, we are bound to complete them as a part of our lives. It can eventually become a habit and help us in the long run. Though a proper workout routine cannot be replaced by non-exercise physical activities, it will surely make you feel more active day by day. Our habits define us and even tiny habits have the potential to create a huge positive impact on our lives.
